The Handshake Interrupt and Pull Direct Hypnotic Induction
Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010If you are familiar with the classic editions of the hypnotic handshake induction you will know it works on the theory of pattern interrupts.
Since shaking hands is something the majority of us simply do routinely, obviously, it indicates it's a hard wired unconscious pattern. (like tying your shoes, composing your own signature, cleaning your teeth, things you simply do with out thinking.)
Now as soon as this kind of routine is interrupted a state of full blankness is induced.
How are you affected is you are taking the brain straight down one track (shaking hands) which activates the unconscious pattern and automatic conduct. Just like they're comfortable on this automatic road, and their own unconscious mind is running the behaviour without any cognizant input you interrupt the actual habit.
Doing some thing unforeseen which breaks the pattern throws their mind off the track, and leaves them in a condition of full blankness, frantically trying to find one more track to jump on induces “hyper suggestibility. In other words, a complete readiness to follow what ever you suggest (within reason needless to say!).
There are no boundaries to how you can disrupt the pattern or what pattern you are able to disrupt (don't restrict your self to handshake inductions!). However in this particular induction we'll give attention to an arm pull.
Once you are shaking their hand and they are in the handshake pattern (just basically when they're in the act of shaking your hand in a natural and normal way) you offer a sharp pull upon their own arm (the one you're shaking) with yours. Be sure to prevent appearing to be violent, and be gentle enough to make certain you don't trigger any pain or injury (no folks, dislocating arms will not create a good induction!).
